P/Synthesis Infrastructure

Current plan for Spring 2020

P: Synthesis requirements theory paper Theory paper + maybe review of systems, targeting TOCHI in April (+ maybe ASIST if there is a smaller piece)

Would like to also do some other panel / workshop stuff

WP: Synthesis empirical paper Empirical paper from GoPro and INST 888 Fall 2019 deploy --> ASIST in April

P: Zettelkasten pilot study start playing with this in April

Might be able to do with Maximilian who will probably visit (self-funded) from April to July.

We can also learn things from the doctoral seminar this semester. Should explore IRB stuff ASAP

Current goal: reify the most important open ❔ questions for P/Synthesis Infrastructure to guide writing. Each of those should eventually be tied to one or more zettels.

Rooij, Iris van | NIAS: (esp. her fellowship work which is focusing on developing tools and processes for theory development, reminiscent of vision of P/Synthesis Infrastructure)

Watched The Bit Player documentary on Claude Shannon. Inspiring! Thinking again about compression in the information theory sense, and what that might mean for P/Synthesis Infrastructure.

Most relevant for P/Synthesis Infrastructure and P/Computational Analogy - talking about how scientists at the Center did "import" and "export" of information for their work

In general, we really need to ground the whole P/Synthesis Infrastructure work in the MIS Knowledge Management world: it is a close cousin of what we're doing, and lots of the insights we are building on were in the context of these organizational Knowledge Management systems (cf. @ackermanSharingKnowledgeExpertise2013)

Several pieces and talks by Berna Devezer about the insufficiency of reproducibility for advancing discovery, also making the case for formal methods (possibly synthesis) - reminded me of the argument that Z: Scientific fields stall without adequate theoretical synthesis, even if reproducibility is maintained. Possible connections to P/Synthesis Infrastructure?
